On June 12, 2024, Midjourney officialLaunched the latest personalization function to let the AI model learn the user's preferences.
Because in the past, the instructions we wrote were usually filled in based on our own preferences and preferences. For example, if I like science fiction-like scenes, I need to mention science fiction-like scenes in the instructions.
The Midjourney personalization function launched this time, by learning our preferences, the model will have a better chance of using our preferences to create pictures.
How to set up or enable the personalization function (Model Personalization)?
Before setting up the personalization function, you need to go to the official website to vote for the pictures you like. At least 200 pictures are required so that the model can roughly guess what your preferences are.
Let me show you step by step how to vote:
- First enter the official website through the following URL, click Tasks on the left to enter the task page, and click Rank images on the left.
- After entering, you will see two pictures. You can quickly use the number key one or two to select the picture you like, or press three to skip the rating.
- Basically, as long as you rate more than 200 pictures, you can turn on the personalization function in Midjourney.
- To see how many pictures you have commented on, you can go to Discord’s /info to see them (like me, I have already trained 254 pictures)
Because 200 pictures is really a lot, you may be distracted, and they also have a fool-proof mechanism to let you grade it carefully.
The little easter egg is that the official website mentions that if you are among the first 2,000 excellent raters, you will win extra time to quickly generate pictures every day.
How to turn on the personalization function (Model Personalization)?
After you have rated 200 pictures, you can go to Midjourney to turn on the personalization function. You can turn it on on the computer website or in Discord.

The method of turning on the personalization function of the website is as shown below. Click the setting icon next to the input column above, turn on Personalize below, and you are done.

How to use the personalization function (Model Personalization)?
Next, we need to personalize the image!
After you have turned on the personalization function,When giving the next command, add – – p at the end. , that’s it.
Let’s take a look directly. I want to draw a picture of a girl with brown hair playing on the computer. The prompt I clicked is brown hair girl, typing on the keyboard
The picture on the left is a picture before I have turned on the personalization function, and the picture on the right is a picture after I have turned on the personalization function.
You can see a slight difference!
I personally don’t particularly like watercolor-style pictures. Before I use the personalization function, I will give another command when I see this kind of picture.
However, after I train the model, it will appear more realistic and cartoon-like, which I prefer~
How to enhance the personalization function (Model Personalization)?
You can set the –stylize parameter to make personalization more obvious (the lower the S value, the more personalization is restricted, the higher the S value, the more personalization is enabled)
Just try it and see, I use it the same way."brown hair girl, typing on the keyboard” prompt, I set three different Stylize values, namely S0, S250, and S750. You can see the differences below.

I find it quite interesting when using it myself, but my preference is not specific yet.
You may need to train a little more, such as more than 500 pictures, before you have a chance to let the model truly understand your preferences.
I have trained 250 images so far, and it seems to have captured the preferences I want a little bit.
But currently this function is not very stable, so we can still watch it while walking.
